Family organization

I have never been one who has ever been particularly organized.  I have the best intentions of course, but some how reality always seems to get in the way or the practical applications that it takes to actually make things come together.  But I have been working on stuff and slowly but surely, the boxes and boxes of papers and other miscellaneous crap that has been hauled from move to move is slowly swindling into an almost manageable stack of stuff.

Having out of town company that one was really excited about does help and definitely gives outside motivation, but that is another story entirely.

Anyway, Marquella has been wanting us to work out as a family and she wants to create a schedule for us, and conveniently a friend shared a link to some awesome weekly charts that I printed out.  I also found an older family notebook that I had started to work on, so I think between the both of them, there will be some good ideas for us to get organized and motivated.  It helps that I have children who are old enough to actually help with with the project as a family and I don't have to do it alone.  Definitely will help to not get completely overwhelmed with things.  Last night we started, this weekend we're going to work on it some more.

I can't wait to get things in order because it will help get the clutter out of my brain so I can focus on more important things that I hope will bring our family together and allow me to get my priorities straight when it comes to pursuing my film making goals.

Less distractions all around is always a good thing.

Life with Children...

So it's been a while since I've posted.  Life, kids, work all took a toll.  The biggest of course was Xander and his health problems.  Now don't get me wrong, it's not like he's got some scary disease, he just throws up for no apparent reason and at random times.  Needless to say, it's taken his toll on him physically and emotionally.  There have been days when he's just great, not a care in the world and then there are other times where he is so sick, he can't even get out of bed and sleep for 16 hours.

This has been going off and on for several years, but it would usually happen for a couple of weeks and then clear itself up, but this bout has been so bad that he missed so much school that we actually pulled him from school and he's currently being homeschooled by my mom.  Thank goodness for retired grandma's who also happened to be teachers.  She's been great, really helping him keep on track with school.

In the meantime, I'm sure that Xander has felt rather like a pin cushion with all of the tests that we've been running on him.  In November, he had his adenoids out because he had so much post nasal drip that we thought it might have been causing him to vomit.  No such luck, though his sinuses are significantly better and he isn't sniffling all the time.

We made it to the gastroenterologist who determined that there was a blockage in his large intestine, so much of one the doctor was really quite impressed.  When we do something, we do it real well.  Anyway, we spent weeks doing a colon cleanse interspersed with xrays, trying to see the improvement.  Things were getting better in his colon, but unfortunately, he was still throwing up.

Concerned, the doctor scheduled an ultrasound to check his gallbladder and all of his other internal organs.  No such luck, his intestines all looked good.  During this time, we also made a trip to the allergist to see if it could possibly be some kind of weird allergies and other than some pretty bad seasonal allergies, everything else came back fine, so it was back to the gastroenterologist.

It was now time to do somthing a little more invasive, this meant an endoscopy.  They wanted to see if there was something like Celiacs or Crones or some other type of infection.  Thankfully all that came back normal, but we still didn't know what was causing his vomitting.  Unfortunately this only made the doctor more worried because there still didn't seem to be an obvious source to the problem.  So the message that got left on my voice mail was basically "all of his innards seem to look okay, I just want to make sure that he doesn't have a brain tumor."

Not the best way to get the morning going I assure you.

We were able to get in and do an MRI and YAY! no brain tumor, but still no reasons for what could possibly be wrong.

This whole "adventure" has truly given me an understanding of what parents go through who have really sick kids.  There was one little boy who was having surgery the same day as Xander, but it was his 7th or 8th surgery and chances are there would probably be several more.  Thankfully, we don't have to deal with that, but I truly felt for those parents and could only wish them well.  This has been stressful of course, but he's an otherwise healthy kid and once we get him feeling better, he should be back to normal.

Then, because I didn't have enough on my plate, Marquella decided to go ahead and get sick as well because I think that she was feeling neglected. Poor kid had a sore throat and running a low grade fever for several days.  Thankfully it wasn't strep, but viruses can't be treated with antibiotics, so it's a waiting game. It's amazing how something so small can cause so many problems.

Just when I think things are going to calm down, something else pops up. Oh well, I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.  I only have 2 and they keep me hopping.  I can't image having any more than that and I truly marvel at other women that do.  They have far more patience than I ever could.

So yeah, life with kids. They definintely make my life interesting, whether I want them too or not. They make my life worth living.

I guess I'll keep them.
